About Us
Big Island Blooms is a family run flower farm and design studio nestled within the Kohala Mountains in Waimea, Hawaii. Ever inspired by the natural beauty that surrounds us, we are fortunate to call this island our home.
We grow countless varieties of specialty cut + heirloom flowers and foliage. From ranunculus, dahlias, and lisianthus to ‘ilima, palapalai, and pīkake, Big Island Blooms is committed to providing our community with fresh and beautiful flowers. We believe in respecting the land by farming using sustainable and organic practices. This, supporting local, and carefully sourcing materials, is at the heart of our operation.
We use our flowers to create lush, natural, and seasonally-inspired floral designs for weddings, special events or kitchen tables. We also supply flowers to other talented florists in our area.
About Lauren
My passion for our natural environment fed directly into my love of flower farming. Inspired to try to grow my own cut flowers, I went from having one tiny veggie patch with a few flowers tucked in-between, to digging up our entire yard for a small flower farm! From planning and sowing, to harvesting and arranging - I love it all. This journey has been truly amazing and I look forward to learning as much as I can along the way.
In addition to loving flowers, I love spending time with family and friends. I am happiest when immersed in nature and the ocean. I also love marine animals, exercising rigorously, dabbling in interior design, and the Philadelphia Eagles.
About Our Ohana
I am very fortunate to have a supportive family who have always encouraged me to pursue my dreams - from working with marine animals to starting my own flower farm. They are instrumental in making Big Island Blooms a reality. We are a tight knit bunch and I would not be the person I am today without them.
Greg
My husband, Greg, is truly my right-hand man. He is strong, intelligent, and can fix anything. We met while studying at McGill University, fell in love, and have been inseparable since. An environmental engineer by trade, Greg spearheads our sustainability efforts. A true jack of all trades, Greg helps with everything from programming software, to setting up irrigation systems – to shoveling really fast!
Zoë
Zoë, our 7-year old daughter, has a knack for design and loves harvesting and arranging the flowers that we grow. She is focused, driven, fun-loving, and helpful.
Avery
Avery loves shoveling compost and digging holes. At the seasoned age of 5, he is happy to point out his favorite flowers and often stops mid-shovel scoop to mindfully appreciate them. His laugh is contagious as is his inquisitive and adventurous nature.
Bonnie
My mom, Bonnie, is a retired elementary school art teacher and lifelong creative who brings her expansive skill set to the work that we do. The craftiest of moms, Bonnie creates our vases out of recycled wine bottles and creates templates for recycled paper to wrap our market bouquets.
Dave
My dad, Dave, is a big proponent of any academic pursuit. He encourages our quest for knowledge which continues to shape our goals at Big Island Blooms. Having worked as a Director of Guidance for many school districts, I often turn to him for candid advice and balanced perspective.
Erin
My sister, Erin, is a talented lawyer currently living in Los Angeles who serves as Big Island Blooms’ business consultant. As a fervent advocate for the potential of Big Island Blooms, and really all female-run businesses, she can often be relied on for the helpful nudge to "just go for it."
